On the pages of We Shall Overcome I have gathered a good many (but nowhere near all) of the photographs posted on the Internet depicting the horrific events of September 11th, along with the overwhelming outpouring of responses to those events. The photos and most of the graphics were received via e-mail or gathered from various web sites and discussion forums; while the musical selections were located through the Morpheus community. Most of the writings were also gleaned from e-mail and discussion groups, as well as few personal choices.

The project was begun with the intention of putting up a simple, single tribute page, but it obviously grew. The more I saw and read, both online and via regular media, the more I knew needed to be included in this presentation. It then became apparent that I had collected too much to present as standard web pages, so I busied myself constructing Flash movies of the photos and songs. The creation of We Shall Overcome has been my personal healing experience, and its going live has been a bit long in coming. I also was anticipating the eventual removal of these photographs from active sites, and wanted to aid in their continuing availability.

I have tried to determine the photographers for all the photos used on this site, and have included their credits below whenever I could, but many I still do not know. I also don't have an idea as to whom to credit for any of the graphics, other than the web rings. If anyone can furnish this information please e-mail it to me at: casaindigo@hotmail.com and I will include the credit. The way I see it is, each of the many photographs featured on this site has captured a tiny sliver of time, a glimpse of history. The sole credit and responsibility for these amazing images rests with the photographers and photo-journalists working for the various news services, as well as the 'man on the street' finding him or herself in the so-said 'right place at the right time'. The poetry, the prayers, the graphic artwork, the words of condolence and encouragement are straight from the very hearts of their creators.

Give thanks.
